Special Funding

Wentworth Fund for Experiential Learning

The Wentworth Fund for Experiential Learning provides limited financial assistance for UF Honors students pursuing experiential learning opportunities (exception: study abroad) during their undergraduate career. Applications are available twice per year to fund opportunities taking place during that academic year (Fall semester through Summer B/C).

Eligible categories:

  • Travel to conduct research or to present at an academic conference / meeting
  • Unpaid; or public service, government or non-profit focused internship
  • Leadership or professional development-focused training or certification (Priority - students receiving need-based aid, including Pell-eligible students)
  • Other Honors experiential learning activity or select other UF department-sponsored experiential learning activities, with Honors Director approval
  • Note, students participating in an Honors UnCommon Classroom automatically receive Wentworth funding. The cost of the experience includes the award amount already applied.
The amount of the award will be determined by the UF Honors Director and may vary by the student's experience, location, and other available funding including other scholarships / financial aid. Students may apply for one award in each funding cycle. Most awards will be less than $500, with limited exceptions.

Funds are intended to help defray the costs associated with completing an experience, rather than funding an experience in its entirety. Please note that some awards may alter your financial aid package.

Total Wentworth funds available each year are limited.

Application: Will reopen again in September 2025

Deadlines: October 1 and March 1 annually

Note, activity participation must be confirmed before application submission.

Post-Experience Requirements: The following components must be submitted to the Honors Director at the conclusion of the experience. Failure to submit these components within 10 business days will result in award repayment:

  • Expense receipts (e.g. airfare, lodging, registration)
  • Impact Statement: Concisely summarize the experience; Explain the ways in which the experience expanded your understanding, perspective, skills, or preparedness; Describe how the experienced shaped your academic, career, and / or personal goals.
  • If eligible, submit your experience for the relevant Academic or Enrichment points towards Honors Completion Requirements in your Honors Canvas Cohort.
